Our methodology

How we rate.

Every car gets one overall score out of 10, built from five categories. Two of them carry extra weight, because in everyday ownership, they're what you actually notice.

WEIGHTED HEAVIEST

Tech & Software

Infotainment speed and logic, screen quality, CarPlay/Android Auto, voice control, driver-assist behaviour, and how well over-the-air updates keep the car current. We use it every day for a week before we score it.

WEIGHTED HEAVIEST

Interior Quality

Materials you touch, panel gaps, seat comfort on long runs, cabin noise, and resistance to squeaks and rattles in real Singapore heat and humidity. Will it still feel good in five years?

SUPPORTING

Drive

Ride quality over Singapore's expansion joints and speed humps, steering precision, body control, brake and regen feel, road noise, and whether the car feels composed or busy at expressway speed.

Range & Charging

Real-world range with the aircon on, not the brochure figure, plus home charging, the public networks and DC speed. One score for the whole energy story, because that is how you actually live with it.

Value w/ COE

What you get for the money once Singapore's COE-inclusive pricing is in the picture. The only place a car's price tag enters the score.

THE OVERALL SCORE

One honest number

Tech and Interior are double-weighted; the other three are single-weighted. We round to one decimal. No car is paid for or loaned on the condition of a good score.

And one more thing: the Soul score

Alongside the overall score, every full review gets a Soul score out of 10. It sits outside the maths on purpose. The five categories measure how good a car is; Soul measures how much we'd actually want to own one. Some cars are more than the sum of their parts, and some are less. This is where we say so.

The scale

What the numbers mean

9.0 – 10Class-defining. Buy with total confidence.
8.0 – 8.9Excellent. A few small caveats, nothing serious.
7.0 – 7.9Good. Strong in places, compromised in others.
6.0 – 6.9Fine. Does the job; rivals do it better.
Below 6.0Hard to recommend at the price.

Reviews are the heart of eevee, but sometimes you just want to line cars up side by side. The compare table is a growing, sortable list of Singapore EVs: price with COE, range, charging, battery and boot, plus our verdict and real-world range on the ones we've driven.

Made in Singapore, for Singapore EV buyers.

eevee started because EV reviews from overseas don't tell you what matters here: how a car copes with 33°C and 90% humidity, what it's worth once COE is in the maths, and whether the much-hyped tech actually helps on the CTE at 6pm.

We're independent. We don't accept payment for reviews, and a good score is never a condition of getting a car to test. If we like something we'll tell you; if we don't, we'll tell you that too.

eevee is founded by Rahil Bhagat, a consumer-tech journalist for nearly a decade with bylines at CNET, Forbes and The Straits Times. In 2016 he broke the story of the first Tesla in Singapore and the carbon-surcharge saga that followed, coverage that helped move the national conversation on electric vehicles forward.
